REFLECTIONS | JENNY TODD
Title
What Jenny Todd Taught Me About True Strength and Confidence
The Story
Jenny Todd is known for competing in strongwoman, but her journey there is far from typical. From a self-confessed tomboy and skinny kid at an all-girls school, to working nightclub doors and navigating steroid use, her path has been anything but straightforward. Now coaching some of the best athletes in the strongwoman world, Jenny’s story is raw, real, and completely her own.
Opening
I could’ve easily just spoken to Jenny about strength training and strongwoman, but there’s much more to her than that. She’s got a great sense of humour, strong opinions, and a big personality. I wanted to go deeper—understand who she is and what’s shaped her into the person she is today.
What Stayed With Me
What stayed with me was the emotional weight she’s carried from certain moments in her life. You see a tough exterior when you meet Jenny, but there’s more beneath that. I’m glad we had the chance to explore that side. Struggling with identity, especially when it’s shaped by how others see you rather than how you see yourself—must be exhausting, and you can sense that it’s something she’s had to navigate for a long time.
The Bigger Reflection
There can often be a gap between who you feel you are and how others perceive you. The way you look, move, or present yourself can shape how people judge you, rightly or wrongly. If those experiences are negative early on, they don’t just disappear; they carry into adulthood. Jenny’s story highlights how important it is to understand and accept who you are, despite those external pressures.
A Line I Won’t Forget
“I remember getting home and just crying a lot.”
Hearing that from Jenny was unexpected. It showed a level of vulnerability that contrasts with how she presents on the surface. Sometimes it’s not one big moment, but the build-up of everything underneath that eventually needs a release.
Closing Thought
Jenny is one of the most unique people I’ve met. Kind, driven, and unapologetically herself. I’ve seen her push herself to the limit, giving everything to what she does, but there’s intelligence behind it too. She knows when to push and when to step back. She’s strong in every sense of the word—not just physically, but in who she.
